When Embroidered Patches Are the Better Choice

  • Bold, iconic designs — logos, animals, crests, and graphics with clear outlines reproduce beautifully in embroidery.
  • Heavier fabrics — denim jackets, canvas bags, wool coats, and backpacks provide the structure embroidered patches need.
  • Decorative or collectible use — the raised texture and dimensional look make embroidered patches a natural choice for display, gifting, and collecting.
  • Iron-on application — most embroidered patches include a heat-activated adhesive backing for fast, secure attachment at home.
  • Larger sizes — detail holds well from about 1 inch up to large back patches.

When Woven Patches May Be a Better Fit

  • Fine text and micro detail — thin letterforms and intricate linework are cleaner in woven construction.
  • Lightweight or stretch fabrics — the flat, flexible profile of woven patches sits better on thinner materials without distorting the garment.
  • Color gradients or photographic detail — woven techniques can blend colors more smoothly than embroidery thread fills.
  • Small patch sizes — under approximately ¾ inch, woven construction holds detail that embroidery cannot.

Application & Care Notes

Iron-On Application (Embroidered Patches)

  1. Pre-wash and dry the garment without fabric softener.
  2. Place the patch adhesive-side down on the fabric.
  3. Cover with a thin pressing cloth or pillowcase.
  4. Press firmly with a hot iron (no steam) for 30–45 seconds.
  5. Allow to cool completely before handling. Repeat on the reverse side for added hold.
  6. For best longevity, reinforce edges with a few stitches.

Washing & Care

  • Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, inside out.
  • Avoid bleach and fabric softener near patches.
  • Tumble dry low or air dry to preserve adhesive and thread integrity.
  • Do not iron directly over the patch surface.
